Richter City Roller Derby

Richter City Roller Derby (RCRD) is Wellington’s all female, flat track roller derby league. Established in 2007 by a handful of girls with a vision, Richter City introduced the growing sport of Roller Derby to the country’s capital. We are a non profit, skater owned and operated league. In 2013 Richter City became a fully qualified member of the international organization governing the sport of women’s flat track derby, the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA).

Our League consists of a diverse group of around 40 skaters plus volunteers, who work tirelessly on and off the track to promote and strengthen our league and our sport. In our free time we manage the business side of the league, planning bouts, sponsorships and organising events within the community. Richter City emphasises the empowerment of all our members by development of athletic ability, good sportswoman-ship and dedication to the game. We are always looking for new skaters, referees, and volunteers to join the league.

RCRD is comprised of 3 home teams which play within the league, and 2 travel teams who compete with other leagues across the country and internationally. Our three home teams are the leopard themed Smash Malice in yellow and black, the super heroes of Comic Slams in blue and silver, and the pink and red disgraced beauty queens of Brutal Pageant. Our travel teams are split into the A team, the All Stars, and our B team, the Convicts. We are proud to have several of our All Stars representing the best in the country as members of Roller Derby Team New Zealand, and to have competed in division 1 of the Great Southern Slam Tournament in Adelaide in 2014.

Having already hosted VRDL’s(Victorian Roller Derby League) Queen Bees and Sydney’s Assassin’s, Richter City are looking forward to more and more international competition as we continue to train hard to be the best.

As per our constitution the objectives of Richer City Roller Derby are:
– Promote and support the sport and spirit of Roller Derby
– Encourage women to join
– Hold competitive events and travel to other events
– Help other leagues/teams get started in NZ
– Participate in national roller derby events through Roller Derby
New Zealand
– Endeavour to be affiliated with WFTDA

Above all, the girls of Richter City are dedicated to giving our fans exactly what they want – Beauty, Brains, Bruises – and Roller Derby.
