Richter City holds an annual Freshmeat course which is the avenue by which new skaters are trained and introduced into the league. 2016 has shown a much greater interest from potiental new skaters, so we are now holding a second intake for the year. These are on skates sessions held at the Chinese Culture Centre in Berhampore.

All skaters will need to bring their own gear with them. Email our Freshmeat Committee at for more information.Gear required includes roller skates, helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards and mouth guard.

In the meantime, we’d be happy to help you start skating now with tips on gear, where to skate etc etc. The Skate Collective are a low contact, low commitment group who have regular trainings. This is a great starting point for people learning to skate AND learning about derby. You can contact them here.

If you’re an experienced skater (ie have non derby skating experience like hockey) or have been a member of another league, please let us know the details of your skating experience and we may be able to fast track you into the league.

If you’re interested in Figure or Speed Skating, or learn to skate (non-roller derby), please check out the Upper Hutt RollerSkating Club Website or the Upper Hutt RollerSkating Club Facebook page.

Please note that you must be 18 or older to join RCRD, but you’re never too young to start skating!
